Vegan & Alternative Wedding at the Asylum Chapel, Peckham

Nina & Jack’s wedding at the Asylum Chapel in Peckham, London was all about doing things their way: sustainable, creative, and full of meaning. They planned an entirely vegan menu, made everything themselves, and filled the day with personal details like crystals, handmade décor, and a sequin dress that shimmered against the Chapel’s dramatic backdrop.

For them, being alternative didn’t mean being different for the sake of it… it meant creating a wedding that reflected their values, their family, and their love

Nina and Jack wanted a wedding that felt true to them — unique, meaningful, and vegan. For their tenth anniversary, they chose the Asylum Chapel in Peckham for a celebration filled with DIY food, crystals, and personality.

The Venue: Alternative Wedding at Asylum Chapel, Peckham

As a couple, Nina and Jack were complete opposites. Nina dreamed of eloping, while Jack wanted a big wedding. In the end, they met in the middle with a celebration at the Asylum Chapel in Peckham, London, surrounded by close friends and family. Family played a big role in planning too, even helping with the search for venues. The Asylum Chapel was the perfect fit: an alternative London wedding venue that matched Nina’s dramatic sequin dress.

Jack’s sister, a florist, created all the flowers with a playful colour scheme and one special request… fruit in the centrepieces. Nina’s favourite detail? The flower girls’ vuvuzela rose crowns, which looked incredible against the moody backdrop of the Chapel.

The Theme: Homemade Vegan Food and Crystals

Food was at the heart of Nina & Jack’s day.  They created a completely vegan wedding feast by hand. From buffet spreads to cupcakes, the entire menu reflected their beliefs and lifestyle, all for just £150. Everything was sustainable: produce from the local market, biodegradable plates made from banana leaves, bamboo cutlery, and even cruelty-free clothing choices (no wool in Jack’s suit, no leather shoes).

They also incorporated crystals wherever they could. Rose quartz and clear quartz appeared on the welcome sign and place cards, which doubled as favours for guests. These details tied in beautifully with Nina’s jewellery, a custom pink opal necklace designed especially for her.

The couple poured their personalities into DIY touches. They hand-made invitations featuring their cats as bride and groom, painted signage for the seating plan and card basket, and created a playlist of music that mattered to them. But the food remained their proudest DIY achievement, a true reflection of their values.

The Vibe: Casual, Alternative London Wedding

The day was full of special moments. Nina told me, “The wedding was really just about love. Those little belly-flipping moments like walking into the ceremony, being announced as newlyweds, seeing our family’s faces, and hearing Jack talk so openly in his speech about us all. That was amazing to me.”

This wedding wasn’t about trends or tradition. It was about love, family, and their values. A vegan, sustainable wedding at the Asylum Chapel that felt casual, joyful, and deeply personal.
