Duke of York’s Wedding Photographer Brighton | Travis & Flic | Dale Weeks

I’m Dale, a documentary wedding photographer based in East Sussex. Travis and Flic married at Duke of York’s Picturehouse in Brighton, with every detail borrowed from Wes Anderson, and took the party on to The Mariner in Hove.

I photographed it the way I photograph everything: candid, colourful and relaxed, with no stiff poses and no awkward line-ups. They had built a whole world for the day, so my job was to keep up with it.

The ceremony took place in the cinema at Duke of York’s, with guests in the red velvet seats. Flic walked down the aisle on her dad’s arm, him in a kilt, and the whole room stood and applauded.

There was a film too. Travis and Flic had made a homemade story of how they got engaged, and everyone watched it together. Some guests were quietly moved.

For portraits they stood hand in hand in front of the screen, with the moon from Le Voyage dans la Lune projected behind them. Travis, in a green suit, covered his mouth in front of it.

Confetti, a vintage car and a tennis court

Outside Duke of York’s, guests threw blue and white pom-pom confetti. A teal and cream vintage car with a white ribbon across the bonnet took the couple through the streets, past scaffolded Georgian buildings. Flic stepped out of it laughing, her bouquet left on the bonnet.

On the balcony at Duke of York’s they had champagne, in the sun and again under red and green neon strips.

For more portraits we found an empty tennis court. The two of them stood side by side at the net, as symmetrical as a Wes Anderson frame.

Every table a different film at The Mariner

At The Mariner in Hove, each table was themed around a different Wes Anderson film. The Grand Budapest Hotel table had a purple Lobby Boy hat and pink Mendl’s boxes. Moonrise Kingdom had a red record player and orange napkins, and Rushmore had a typewriter with red berets on the plates.

The long table had a giant peach balloon, paper tassels and a Scrabble box. Guests dressed for it: red berets, orange scout neckerchiefs and one snorkel mask.

The cakes were Fantastic Mr Fox, with fox figures of Travis and Flic, made by Choccywoccydoodah. RIP.

Later, guests sang from song sheets while Travis and Flic laughed helplessly. Flic spun across the wooden dancefloor with Travis clutching his head, and plenty of guests squeezed into a gold crescent moon photo prop.
