East London Wedding Photographer

I’m Dale, a documentary wedding photographer based in East Sussex, shooting weddings across East and South London for years — from Hackney Town Hall and Asylum Chapel to Clapton Country Club, Greenwich Yacht Club, and Royal Inn on the Park.

No stiff poses, no awkward lineups. Just your day, documented honestly as it happens — the nerves before the ceremony, the chaos of the dancefloor, and all the in-between moments that make your wedding yours.

What makes East London weddings special?

THE VARIETY
East London has a range of backdrops that’s hard to match anywhere else in the country. Victorian town halls, ruined chapels, industrial warehouse venues, pub gardens on the edge of Victoria Park, and riverside views down at Greenwich — all within a few miles of each other. Couples choose East London because they want something with character, and the area delivers without needing much help.

THE ENERGY
There’s also something about the way East London weddings feel. The city carries on around you — buses, street noise, the everyday — and rather than competing with it, the best weddings lean into it. Confetti on town hall steps while strangers walk past. Portraits in Hackney backstreets. A vintage double-decker pulling up outside a wine bar in Bethnal Green. It’s a backdrop that makes every wedding feel unmistakably itself.

Weddings across East London

Different venues, different couples, different days — but the same city doing its thing around all of them.

Hackney Town Hall

The classic East London ceremony venue. Grand Victorian architecture, a grand staircase, and the city carrying on around you the moment you step outside. What makes it special is that contrast — big, joyful moments happening right in the middle of everyday London life.

  • Ceremony rooms with high ceilings and natural light that photographs beautifully
  • The steps outside are perfect for confetti — buses, black cabs and all
  • Victoria Park and Hackney’s backstreets on the doorstep for relaxed portraits after

Royal Inn on the Park

A proper East London pub sitting right on the edge of Victoria Park. If your ideal wedding involves pints in a pub garden, kids running around in the sun, and the day feeling completely relaxed — this is it.

  • Sprawling pub garden that fills up naturally without any direction
  • Victoria Park next door for portraits with open sky and greenery
  • The kind of atmosphere that needs no styling — it arrives with the guests

Clapton Country Club

Industrial, eclectic, and full of personality. Exposed brick, lush greenery, and a genuine sense of history — once the dance floor fills it’s one of the most energetic rooms I’ve photographed.

  • Ceremony and reception in one site, with distinct spaces for each part of the day
  • The interiors are rich with texture and colour — great light even without flash
  • The dancefloor has a particular energy — the photos from evenings here are some of my favourites

Greenwich Yacht Club

Not every East London wedding is set against brick walls and city streets. Greenwich Yacht Club sits right on the Thames with views across London that feel genuinely surprising — calm water on one side, the skyline on the other.

  • Golden-hour portraits by the water are hard to beat anywhere in the city
  • The contrast of the river and the cityscape makes for a backdrop that’s uniquely London
  • Hidden gem status — couples who find it tend to feel like they’ve discovered something

Clissold House & Sager and Wilde

A Georgian mansion in Clissold Park for the ceremony, then a wine bar tucked under the railway arches in Bethnal Green for the reception — with a vintage double-decker bus connecting the two. Unmistakably London, and one of the most enjoyable days I’ve shot.

  • Clissold House has beautiful grounds and period interiors for the ceremony
  • Sager & Wilde’s arched brick interior transforms completely once the candles are lit
  • The journey between venues becomes part of the story — and the photos

Asylum Chapel

One of the most atmospheric wedding venues in London. Raw textures, peeling paint, and original stained-glass windows give it a cinematic, moody feel that’s unlike anywhere else. The space does the talking — couples choose it because they want something that doesn’t need over-styling.

  • The light through the stained glass during the ceremony is extraordinary
  • Peckham’s backstreets and market are right outside for portraits with real city character
  • Intimate capacity means the room fills with energy quickly — it never feels sparse

Some favourites: Hackney Town Hall, Clapton Country Club, Asylum Chapel, The Depot, and Royal Inn on the Park — each offers a unique atmosphere and great light.

How would you describe your photography style?

Candid, colourful and cinematic. I focus on genuine emotion, energy and connection rather than posed photos.

Do you photograph small and alternative weddings?

Absolutely. I love the intimacy and creativity of smaller weddings — pubs, studios, back gardens, and city rooftops included.

Can you photograph across all of London?

Yes, I cover all boroughs — from East to North and South London — with no extra travel fees inside the M25.

Do you work with other local suppliers in East London?

Yes — I regularly collaborate with planners, florists and venues across Hackney, Clapton and Shoreditch. I’m always happy to recommend trusted suppliers.

How to Choose a Wedding Photographer in East London

London weddings have a particular energy — the city is always doing something around you, and the best documentary photography leans into that rather than trying to shut it out. I don’t move people around or set moments up. I stay close to what’s happening, keep moving, and look for the images that tell the real story of the day. The result is a gallery that feels lived-in — candid, colourful, and genuinely yours — with the city woven through it exactly as it was.

FAQ

Got Questions?

If you have questions that aren’t answered here, just ask – I’m always happy to chat things through.

Yes — I cover all boroughs with no extra travel fees inside the M25. East and South London are where I shoot most often, but I’m equally at home in North, West, or Central London.

It’s one of my most-photographed venues. I know the ceremony rooms, the light at different times of day, the best position for confetti on the steps, and the surrounding streets for portraits. No learning curve on the day.

That’s very common for London weddings and something I enjoy shooting. Moving between a ceremony venue, a pub, a restaurant, and a reception space across the city gives the day a natural story arc — and the photos reflect that.

Absolutely. Town hall ceremonies with twenty guests are just as worth documenting as full-day celebrations. My Ceremony & Story package from £1,200 is built exactly for that.

Popular London dates — particularly spring and summer Saturdays — tend to go twelve to eighteen months ahead. If your date is coming up, it’s worth getting in touch sooner rather than later.

Drop me a message with your date and venue. I’ll come back to you within 24 hours — no pressure, no sales pitch, just an honest conversation about your plans.
