There’s something timeless about Rye: cobbled streets, medieval buildings, and just a touch of seaside charm. Amy & Stan’s summer wedding combined a heartfelt Rye Town Hall ceremony with a colourful reception at The George. They wanted the day to feel fun and authentic, surrounded by friends, family, and some brilliant local suppliers who made it all possible.

Morning Prep in the Heart of Rye

The day started in one of The George’s beautiful rooms, with high ceilings, soft light, and a buzzing atmosphere. Makeup brushes, laughter, and a few nervous sips of champagne set the tone. I always love capturing those in-between moments. Chatting, parents sneaking a glance, the calm before the ceremony.

A Ceremony At Rye Town Hall

Rye Town Hall is such a gem. Wood-panelled walls, grand chandeliers, and that sense of history. The ceremony was heartfelt and full of laughter, with confetti cannons waiting on the famous Town Hall steps outside.

Portraits on Rye’s Cobbled Streets

Afterwards, we wandered the cobbled lanes for portraits. Rye has no shortage of textures. Red brick, pastel shopfronts, and glimpses of the sea breeze. These quiet little moments away from the crowd are always magic.

The George in Rye Reception

The George in Rye is perfect for couples who want elegance without fuss. Long banquet tables, colourful seasonal flowers, and heartfelt speeches created a relaxed atmosphere. As the evening went on, the courtyard filled with music, dancing, and that unmistakable Rye summer glow.

Why I Loved This Wedding

This wedding felt like Rye itself – full of character, colourful, and endlessly warm. I loved the mix of history and fun, editorial details paired with candid documentary moments. A day that proves weddings don’t need to be staged or forced to be beautiful.

I’m Here to Help You

Thinking of getting married at The GEORGE IN RYE?

Yes. The George is fully licensed for civil ceremonies, so you can hold both your ceremony and reception under one roof. The restored Georgian Ballroom is especially popular, giving you a historic yet stylish setting for your vows. (There is also the town hall and a church just up the road!)

The Ballroom can comfortably seat around 120 guests for a ceremony or wedding breakfast, with space for more friends and family to join later in the evening. It’s flexible enough to feel intimate for smaller gatherings too.

Rye is a medieval town full of cobbled streets, historic buildings, and quirky charm. It feels like stepping back in time, yet it’s only an hour or so from London. Couples love the mix of history, character and the fact that everything from venues, pubs, photo spots are within walking distance.

Mermaid Street is one of the most photographed streets in England, with its cobbles and timbered houses. St Mary’s Churchyard offers beautiful backdrops, and the harbour is just a short walk away. For a dramatic change of scene, Camber Sands is a quick drive for beach portraits at golden hour.

Yes. The George has stylish, individually designed rooms onsite, so you and your guests can stay right at the venue. It’s perfect for easing into the morning preparations and continuing the party late into the night without worrying about travel.
