Cissbury Barns Wedding Photographer | Camille & Joe
Camille and Joe got married at Cissbury Barns on a July day that was properly, unforgivingly hot. The kind of hot where guests find shade instinctively, drinks disappear fast, and the light across the South Downs at golden hour is extraordinary. It was exactly the kind of day Cissbury is built for.

The Ceremony
The ceremony was outside in the walled gardens — warm stone, open sky, and that particular stillness that happens just before two people say their vows. By the time it was done the whole crowd was ready to move, find a drink, and let the afternoon begin.
The Afternoon
Cissbury spreads out in a way that suits hot days. Guests found their way to the shade under the trees at the front of the venue, kids playing pétanque while the adults caught up with each other. Nobody was in a rush. The valley views across the South Downs were doing exactly what they always do in July light — making everything look like it should be photographed.
I walked Camille and Joe across the field after the ceremony — just the two of them, the valley stretching out behind them, the grass golden in the afternoon heat. It’s one of those venues where the portraits almost take care of themselves.

The Reception
The Long Barn in the evening is warm and full of light — speeches, food, the gradual loosening of ties and kicking off of heels that signals the dancefloor is coming. Camille and Joe’s crowd were exactly the kind of guests who make a wedding photographer’s job easy — genuinely there for it, from the first drink to the last song.

“Like one of the guests, just with a camera!”
“Dale was like one of the guests, just with a couple of cameras. All our guests loved him and commented on how well he blended in. If you’re looking for a documentary style photographer, he’s the man. The photos are brilliant — natural, full of moments we’ll treasure.”

Thinking About Cissbury Barns for Your Wedding?
Cissbury is one of those venues that handles hot summer days better than almost anywhere else in West Sussex — the walled gardens, the shade, the field, the views. It’s polished without being stiff, and the light across the South Downs at golden hour is consistently some of the best I shoot in the county. If you’re planning a wedding here I know the venue well and I’d love to hear about it.
