A winter wedding at the Asylum Chapel in Peckham, London. Atmospheric interiors, gothic style, and candid, creative photography.

Winter Wedding at the Asylum Chapel, Peckham

Flo and Tom chose the Asylum Chapel in Peckham, London for their January wedding.
It couldn’t have been a more atmospheric setting. With gothic-style architecture, dramatic interiors, and shafts of winter light cutting through the stained glass… the Asylum Chapel has all the magic you need for a unique winter celebration.

As one of my favourite London wedding venues, I was delighted to capture their day in my usual relaxed, candid style. Letting the drama of the space and the warmth of their guests shine through.

Winter Bridal Style at the Asylum Chapel

Winter weddings bring their own kind of elegance, and Flo’s bridal style struck the perfect balance between classic and personal. She wore the timeless Charlotte gown by Halfpenny London, a dress she described as “something I would have loved twenty years ago, and will still love twenty years from now.”

To make the look her own, she added a star crown by Crown and Glory and a feather-like ruffled trim veil. The combination of timeless dress and playful accessories worked beautifully against the Asylum Chapel’s moody winter backdrop.

Why the Asylum Chapel is Perfect for Winter Weddings

I’ve photographed countless weddings at the Asylum Chapel, and each one feels different — but in winter, it really comes alive. The weathered walls, stained glass windows, and tall ceilings create an atmospheric, candlelit feel that makes the whole ceremony space glow.

Its central Peckham location also means you’re close to some of London’s best photo backdrops. Perfect for a quick wander with your new spouse before heading to your reception. Flo and Tom continued their celebrations at Brunswick House, another venue full of character and charm.

Wedding Photography at the Asylum Chapel

For Flo and Tom, styling was minimal because the venues themselves carried so much personality. The Asylum Chapel doesn’t need heavy decoration, its architecture and natural light do the hard work for you.

This is one of my top tips for couples planning a relaxed wedding: choose venues that already speak for themselves. Fewer moving parts means less stress and more time to enjoy being with your people.

In my approach, I focus on capturing candid moments: the laughter, the tears, the atmosphere – without interfering in the flow of the day. At the Asylum Chapel, that means working with natural light, the drama of the building, and the energy of your guests to tell the story honestly.
