Tibbs Farm Wedding Photographer, Rye | Clare & Jack
Clare and Jack got married at Rye Town Hall on a summer afternoon in 2024, surrounded by family who’d packed into the room to watch. From there the day moved out into the streets of Rye itself, before everyone made their way to Tibbs Farm for the rest of the celebration.
It’s a wedding that splits neatly into two moods. There’s the town hall and the cobbled streets – noisy, public, a bit chaotic in the best way. Then there’s Tibbs Farm – quieter, greener, the kind of place where a smaller group can actually sit and talk to each other. Documenting both in one day is one of my favourite things about weddings that use Rye this way.
Rye Town Hall
Family filled the room at Rye Town Hall for the ceremony itself – no big production, just the people who mattered standing close enough to see everything. That’s part of what makes a room like this work for a smaller wedding: nobody’s at the back straining to see.
The Town Crier and the Street
The best bit of the whole day, and one I hadn’t photographed before at Rye. The town crier announcing Clare and Jack the moment they stepped outside. Passers-by stopped, confetti went up, and for a minute the street belonged to them. It’s the kind of moment you can’t stage and wouldn’t want to; you just have to be standing in the right spot when it happens.
Wandering the Cobbles
Group photos, then a walk around Rye’s cobbled streets for portraits of the two of them. Rye does a lot of the work for you here – the old buildings, the uneven stone, the light bouncing off the walls in the afternoon. I kept things moving rather than posed, following them round corners rather than stopping them in front of a wall.
Out to Tibbs Farm
From Rye it was into the cars and out to Tibbs Farm, where the whole feel of the day changed. Drinks first, out in the open with the countryside stretching off behind everyone -this is where a smaller wedding really earns its keep. No rush to keep a big room moving, just people standing around with a glass in hand, taking in the view.
Settling In to Eat
Then inside to sit and eat, the day slowing right down. With a smaller group there’s none of the scale a bigger wedding needs to manage – it’s closer to a big family dinner than a formal reception, and that’s exactly the atmosphere Tibbs Farm suits.
