Lewes DIY Village Hall Wedding

// Lewes DIY Village Hall Wedding

A colourful DIY Lewes wedding at The Grange, Southover Gardens, and Lewes Village Hall. Shelley and her bridesmaids walked to the registry office, celebrated in the gardens, explored Lewes Castle ruins, and danced the night away in the village hall.

Shelley and her bridesmaids kicked things off in Lewes with zero fuss. Jumpsuits, laughter, and a Needle & Thread dress that looked like it was made for dancing, not sitting still. No cars, no entourage. Just a walk through the streets together, heading straight to the registry office at The Grange, Southover Gardens. It felt more like a group of friends on an adventure than a formal wedding entrance. And it set the tone perfectly.

The ceremony was short, sweet, and totally theirs. As soon as the confetti settled, everyone spilled into the gardens for drinks, soaking up the sunshine. Shelley and Sam didn’t hang about. They grabbed the keys to their old car, zipped through the cobbled streets, and pulled over at the ruins of Lewes Castle for a few photos. It was chaotic in the best way. Laughter, wind in their hair, and that buzz you only get when you’re doing things your own way.

By the time they rolled up at Lewes Village Hall, the party was already primed. Guests cheered them in, long tables groaned under food and wine, and the dance floor lit up before the night was even dark. It wasn’t polished or staged, it was alive. A proper DIY celebration where the only rule was to have fun.

This is why I love shooting weddings in Lewes. There’s history and atmosphere everywhere you look, but couples like Shelley and Sam remind me it’s really about energy, friendship, and doing it your way. From registry office to castle ruins to village hall… they turned Lewes into their own playground.

If you’re planning something similar and need a Lewes wedding photographer who’ll capture the colour, chaos, and joy without interrupting the fun, I’d love to hear from you.
