Asylum Chapel Wedding Photographer London | Dale Weeks
I’m Dale, a documentary wedding photographer based in East Sussex. Asylum Chapel in Peckham is one of my favourite venues in London — raw, atmospheric, and completely unlike anywhere else. I’ve photographed multiple weddings here and every single one has looked stunning without anyone trying very hard to make it so. The venue does the work.
No stiff poses, no awkward lineups. Asylum Chapel attracts couples who want something with edge and character rather than a polished hotel ballroom — which is exactly when documentary photography works at its best. I stay close to what’s happening and let the day tell its own story.
What makes Asylum Chapel weddings special?
The Atmosphere
Asylum Chapel has something most wedding venues spend thousands trying to manufacture — genuine character. The distressed walls, the stained glass, the raw brickwork, the sense that the building has absorbed decades of history. You don’t need to style it heavily because every corner already looks extraordinary. Candlelight in winter turns it into something cinematic. Summer light through the stained glass does the same. It’s one of those rare venues that rewards a photographer who just points the camera and pays attention.
The Location
It’s Peckham — which means the streets outside are as much a part of the day as the chapel itself. Backstreet murals, railway arches, the urban texture of South London. Couples who choose Asylum Chapel tend to want portraits that feel like London rather than portraits that happen to be in London. That distinction matters, and it shows in the photographs.
